Chat Not Responding

Chat issues can come from connection, AI consent, subscription limits, a slow AI response, referral hard-stop state, or local message reconciliation.

Before you start #

  • Check that you are signed in.
  • AI Data Sharing must be enabled for AI coaching.
  • Free usage limits or Pro entitlement issues can affect chat access.

Where to find it #

iOS #

  1. Tap Chat.
  2. Try sending a short test message.
  3. If needed, open Settings > Privacy & Data > AI Data Sharing.

Android #

  1. Tap Chat.
  2. Try sending a short test message.
  3. If needed, open Settings > Privacy and data > AI Data Sharing.

Web #

  1. Open /chat.
  2. Try sending a short test message.
  3. If needed, open Settings > Privacy & Security > AI Data Sharing.

How to use it #

  1. Wait for the current reply to finish before sending again.
  2. Check your connection.
  3. Refresh Chat if the message is stuck.
  4. Check AI Data Sharing and Subscription if the app says coaching is unavailable or limited.
  5. When you reach a free message limit, use the Invite a friend action or upgrade path shown by the app rather than repeatedly sending the same message.
  6. Send a shorter message if a long message with attachments fails.

What happens next #

  • A refreshed chat should reconcile saved server messages and local optimistic messages.
  • If a message failed before saving, you may need to send it again.
  • If AI consent is off, re-enabling consent restores AI coaching access.
  • The Invite a friend action can open the native share sheet on iOS and Android when referral sharing is available.

Troubleshooting #

  • The coach is typing for a long time. Wait a moment, then refresh. Some replies stream before final save and can take longer when cards or memory updates are processed.
  • My message failed. Check connection and send once more. Avoid repeated taps while a send is in progress.
  • I see duplicate messages. Refresh the chat. The app should reconcile duplicate local and server messages.
  • I am out of free messages. Check the reset date shown in Chat. You can invite a friend for extra messages after they complete onboarding, or upgrade to Pro for unlimited messages.
  • The reply is out of context. Tell the coach the missing context and check Your Memory for stale or paused memory.
  • The advice feels unsafe. Stop following it, contact help@nutritracker.io, and seek professional help if urgent.

Privacy and safety notes #

  • Do not send urgent medical issues, passwords, or payment details in chat.
